My students live in a high poverty, rural community. They face challenges in and out of the classroom. Their school and classroom are a constant in their lives and should be a place they enjoy going to each day. I strive to make my classroom a place where learning is both challenging and fun.
My students are energetic and have a variety of learning styles.
When they are active and hands-on in activities, they have a better grasp of the concepts we are covering. I find if the students are at their desks too long, they begin to lose focus and don't grasp the concepts as quickly or easily.
Having classroom materials easily accessible for my students is very important to me. This allows for easy transitions and productive small group and independent learning time. The storage shelf that is requested will store independent and small group resources for math, reading, writing, and language.
Some of the items that it will be used to store are math games, math centers, reading games, reading centers, writing materials and mentor texts, and independent reading materials.
Students will be taught routines and procedures for pulling materials and keeping the storage unit organized. It will allow for smooth transitions and less interruptions during small group instruction because students will know where they can access necessary materials from in the classroom. Every minute counts in the classroom and keeping materials and resources organized helps.
