Master Story Teller For Whole School Experience

Help me give my students an opportunity they will never forget! Odds Bodkin has been telling amazing tales all over the US for decades and is truly a master of his trade.

My Students

My students are a wonderful group of outdoor oriented adventurers! The students range from Kindergarten to 6th grade and are brimming with personality and creativity. Our school strongly emphasizes outdoor education as well as community building, and our students embrace this model with immense passion. They are excited and engaged as soon as they arrive on the school grounds. We have 6th graders who would shock listeners with their knowledge of mythology, and first graders who could name more dinosaurs than most people knew ever existed. We have 5th graders reading at an 7th grade level, and 3rd graders that know how to make a fire, and multiple types of shelter. Every day I come to work I am amazed to see how this small rural school tucked in the shadow of a mountain has such a large community identity and presence. My students make me a lucky teacher!

My Project

My aspiration is that this event will be something my students reflect on for years to come. I have heard Odd's stories sever times as a child and I can vividly remember each time and the impact it had on me! Our school has been talking about introducing a story telling unit into our curriculum and I believe this would be the perfect demonstration of just how amazing a spoken story can be. It will give my students an idea of the lengths they will need to go to to tell an effective, and captivating story. Also as stories do, I hope it shines a new light, and causes them to reflect on something in their own, diverse lives.
