Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in the Hazleton Area School District. We are a low-income school. I have a wide diversity of students and classes of math ranging from 8th grade lowest group to 8th grade top group. This is part of a Middle School 7th & 8th grade with a total of 300 plus students. The classes have ELD students level 1 through 4, as well as special education students mixed in various classes. There is much diversity in the population; however, I try to keep topics and activities fun and creative.
With CoVid hitting all schools & districts, my first concern is the loss of masks & masks being placed everywhere.
This new omicron variant is sweeping everyone/everywhere once again. We all strive to keep our students healthy and schools open. We need to do our part to ensure safety for our students.
My Project
Students use masks daily. The school provides a disposable mask as a student enter the building without one. Throughout the course of the day, students sneeze, cough, just talk or touch his/her mask and it tears or rips. I provide additional masks in my classroom, but I would love to see my students have mask holders so they can attach it to his/her mask. This way when they eat lunch, drink water, blow his/her nose, without setting the mask down or a desk, a bathroom sink, or his/her math book or calculator, the mask can rest on his/her chest instead of lunch tray or lunch table. It is much more hygienic. With the omicron variant, the spread of this strain is everywhere. Whatever we can do to help, we should aide in the safety of our students and keep our schools opened.
The health and safety of our students is imperative in the learning process with this pandemic.
Our school is made up of low -income families. Providing them with additional vitamin C snacks, and a soothing vitamic C chew, in the event of a sore throat might be the only place where they receive the extra TLC in this area.
Any donation you can give, would be greatly appreciated. I know my students would be overjoyed with anything.
