My students need hands-on math manipulatives! They need visual models to help them learn all about solving problems, including addition and subtraction. They need to get these materials in their hands to make learning real!

My Students
I have an awesome group of kids who are ready to learn every day! They come to school excited to be there and ready to learn. Some of them unfortunately come from a home situation where someone isn't always home or available to help them. Our school is a Title I school with about 550 students and our school struggles to have the materials to help all students succeed on a daily basis.
Many students need concrete materials to help them understand math concepts.
My students can count and write the symbols for numbers, but do not have a deep understanding of numbers and how they work. Building a strong sense of how numbers and patterns work builds strong learners.
My Project
My students are in need of math manipulatives! We need a classroom set of Rekenreks to help develop number sense.
Rekenreks are an amazing way to give students a visual representation of adding and subtracting up to 20.
They are able to see and manipulate the beads and build these concepts. We decompose numbers on a daily basis. This helps with math fact fluency and also place value. These are all essential skills and the building blocks of mathematics. Without this base, children can struggle with mathematics all their lives. It is also a fun way to bring math alive in the classroom.
