I teach fifth grade at a Title I school in Florida. My students come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are a diverse and unique bunch. Each day, we strive to do the very best we can. We are a Title I school and the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
My classroom is a place where my students learn that they are able to change the world through the choices and decisions they make in their lives.
Many of my students come from low-income homes, and this can negatively affect their ability to learn successfully. My students come to school wanting to learn and with a positive attitude about school no matter what is going on in their lives. They are hard workers who want to do good things with their lives, and they know it starts here in the classroom.
In our classroom, my students use dry erase boards every day to respond to questions in all subjects. Our dry erase boards are used in Math to demonstrate that students have mastered the necessary steps of multiplying, dividing, graphing, and determining other Mathematical problems.
Students get excited to demonstrate their mastery of Math and other subject concepts on their personal dry erase boards.
When they have completed their work and it has been checked, their boards turn into doodle boards. During free time students use their boards for various games that they play with others. I love that they don't have to waste paper on a daily basis.
