I teach in a small town with a very diverse population of students. They come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. What I love about the students in my class is that they actually choose to take my class because it is an elective. They come in to class the first day not really knowing what to expect but by the time they leave they usually are excited to sign up for next year. I often think of my classes like a family because I often teach the same students for 2 or 3 years. They are always eager to learn and sometimes do better for me in my class than any other classes they might take. I think it is because we are like a family and look out for each other. They know if they are having a hard day they can come to me to vent or ask for advice.
I have many students that struggle because of a rough home life or because of lack of available tools to help them succeed but our school is like a community and there is not one teacher including myself that would not do anything to help our students.
My Project
Students choose to take marketing as an elective and learn many skills that will help them no matter what career path they choose when graduating from high school. I usually have these students for 2-3 marketing classes throughout their 4 years in our school.
I want to introduce my Marketing 2 class to learning to read a business book and create a classroom library.
This will be a book club type of assignment where students will get to read in class the first 30 minutes of class twice a week. I want every student to choose their own book that might meet their own interests. I want books that include diverse authors including male, female, African American and other ethnic backgrounds that will inspire my students.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to introduce the love of reading for fun and self improvement, but you will increase their academic achievement and ACT scores.
