Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the opportunity teach some of the most energetic and kind students in one of the poorest areas of Chicago. I work in Little Village teaching mathematics to 4-5th grade to 120 students. These are some of enthused students and we aren't asking for much simply basics to prepare them a bit better and give them a real chance to improve their education. I hope to give them the chance to compete and be at level with students across this great nation.
My students live in one of the most violent areas in the city of Chicago and require your support.
The area is predominantly Latino and all require free lunch. I hope you can consider giving a bit to provide them with an equal opportunity. They deserve this opportunity and I hope you can find it in your hearts to give and restore this simple request.
My Project
The markers will help the mathematical process as it gives them in alternative to simply writing and working on paper. The colorful markers also allow them to try and explain their work on individual basis and defending their thinking with actual evidence they can show using these markers. I want to provide students with basic materials to better help them solve math problems on the board and on paper. Very simple and basic supplies for complicated work. I am not asking for a lot I simply want markers so that my 120 students can better solve problems on white board. The markers allow for them to share and erase problems easily. The idea would be to use these for all students and we currently are about to run out. My students can't afford to buy them so they buy a simply dollar pack that runs out and then they must rely on me for extra markers and this is quite expensive since I work with all the fourth and fifth grade students. I also want pencil sharpeners to have them work on problems on paper as well as on the boards. The dry erase markers as well as pencil sharpeners will allow them to complete work on board and independently to demonstrate their computational evidence noting their understanding of the lessons. I would like to use the markers to help them and check comprehension with partners by writing on their individual white boards. The markers also allow for them to solve and erase errors more quickly and move from problem to problem at their own pace.
