Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, thoughtful, capable, driven and enthusiastic in learning. My students want to be entertained; they want to have fun, but above all, they want a good education. These kids come in every day eager to consume meaningful and thought-provoking material. I want to provide students with information that makes them think and motivates them to want more. Information that also challenges them and tests them to the very limit of their capabilities. My students are in middle school and they’ve seen other inspiring teachers influence their lives. Having said that, they want something different; specifically, they want a different way of learning and variety of teaching methods. I know that my class is capable of handling it.
My Project
I want to create a "360 degree classroom," which is a class where every surface is dry erase. In this environment, students are standing and actively participating at the whiteboards. This is a really empowering feature as a teacher, I can immediately see students' understanding and can intervene if students are or are not comprehending my instruction. Students can teach each other and build a collaborative atmosphere. Since all of the walls and tables are dry erase, my class will need bunches of materials to support my vision for students. To see students working with whiteboards and learning by making mistakes is a crucial step in the learning process.
So many times, students view math negatively and I believe that is because the passive way mathematics is taught.
I want to get students up and participating and eager to help, compete, and achieve together. Some of my students don't have the funds need to buy markers and basic supplies. I believe this project will definitely be appreciated by students and families.
