My Students
My school is a diverse melting pot of 982 students, which are a great reflection of what a community of the San Francisco Bay Area should stand for. Our students come from all walks of life and bring a variety of experiences. Math proficiency is a staggering 15% (California state average is 37%) and Reading/Language Arts proficiency is 30% (California state average is 48%). We are placed in the bottom 50% of all schools in California for overall test scores (math proficiency is bottom 50%, and reading proficiency is bottom 50%). 67% of the students in my school qualify for free and reduced lunch. Research has shown that students that grow up in poverty have a larger gap in achievement, also known as the achievement gap.
Even though my students face many challenges, it doesn't diminish their spirit and desire to learn.
I push each and every one of my students. They love science and recognize that math takes practice. I love their enthusiasm for any information I give them and their inspiring minds to ask questions. Their excitement fuels me to be a better teacher and drives me to reach out to give them the opportunities that they deserve.
My Project
Students will create many posters and organizers with the markers, the students will love the huge variety, as well as much needed materials to color with.
You will be providing me an opportunity to help teach my students that our communities believe in them as much as I do and they’ve delivered.
Students will use the clay for making models, which will allow them to see them come to life before their eyes in three-dimension, by their own hands.
Students will build solar powered vehicles, which will give them an opportunity to be engineers, as well as become familiar with solar power.
