This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
KHS recently re-opened its welding program because of the current national shortage of welders and the need to find well-paying jobs for the young adults of this community.
My current students are the first group to go through this new program and they are a voracious bunch.
They come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of personal interests. They bring these to class each day along with an eagerness to try new things and a willingness to stay late to complete the day's tasks.
These kids are hungry and ready to sink their teeth into the opportunities that the field of industrial welding has to offer.
My Project
All of the projects that the students in the Kennedy welding program work on throughout the year involve pieces of metal that get cut, ground, brazed and welded. These materials undergo a dramatic transformation which makes it challenging to label student projects. Magic markers evaporate from the heat of the welding, chalk rubs off, and pencils can barely be seen.
Since all of the students work on the same projects, labeling work clearly is vitally important to distinguish one person's work from the next.
Your support will go towards a set of letter and number stamps. These are used to permanently emboss student names and classes into the project materials eliminating any identity questions and streamlining the setup process each day for students.
