Mark My Words.

My students need dry erase markers, highlighters and erasers for class notes and assignments.

My Students

Our small high school is located in one of the most economically depressed congressional districts in our country. To complicate matters, the Mayor and Chancellor recently announced that we are facing huge budget cuts for 2010-11 school year.

We service students primarily from the surrounding neighborhood.

They represent a multiculturally diverse and disadvantaged urban population. Many are recent immigrants who struggle not only to learn the subject matter, but also to acclimate to a new culture and language. We also have a very large Special Needs population that has difficulty with the complex science concepts. Special Needs students and English Language Learners learn best if the textbook notes are simplified and summarized. As a teacher, my task is to provide classroom notes that are organized, summarized in such a fashion as to be used as study guides. The use of different colors to highlight key terms and phrases is extremely useful to all students, but especially so for students with learning difficulties.

My Project

My project calls for a set of dry-erase markers so that I can provide students with the type of class notes that are most useful while at the same time model note-taking skills. As the students progress through the course, they will learn how to summarize text using highlighters. They will also learn how to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. They also develop critical thinking and analytical skills. All of these life skills will serve our students well in college. Economic hardships affect everyone. School districts will be forced to lay-off teachers and/or drastic reduce operating cost by scaling back of essential school supplies and services. The ones that are most negatively impacted are the students. Teachers have always supplemented their classes and schools with their own funds. Recent events will force us to dig a lot deeper into our pockets to service our students.

Your donations will help ensure that our children have the essential school supplies they need to succeed.

We need your support to make it happen. Help us to provide learning experiences and opportunities for those most in need. Thank you for support science education in our public schools.
