Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is important for 5th graders to know multiplication facts because they form the foundation for nearly all higher-level math skills. By 5th grade, students are expected to work with more complex operations like multi-digit multiplication, long division, fractions, and even basic algebra. If they haven’t mastered multiplication facts, these tasks become much slower and more frustrating, which can lead to math anxiety and gaps in learning. Each year, I've noticed less and less students who come to grade 5 with the fact fluency needed for success with grade 5 learning standards.

Knowing multiplication facts by heart allows students to solve problems more quickly and accurately, freeing up their mental energy to focus on understanding new concepts instead of getting stuck on basic calculations.

My students enjoy math, but increasing their fact fluency will allow them to take on more problem solving, critical and logical thinking problems, and build their confidence as mathematicians.

This project's goal is to make learning multiplication facts fun with a camo bootcamp theme with the requested tablecloths, dogtags, pencils, and other resources! Engaging students in learning is always my goal. Creating a bootcamp of hands-on activities and games with dice, fidget toys, and other resources to teach and reinforce fact fluency will benefit all students. I'm most excited about 12 sided dice, which will allow me to differentiate fact practice dice games. Operation: Fact Mastery!
