This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a safe haven, a place where kids can work toward a common goal. Our students need somewhere safe to be, a place off of the tough, local streets. Kids learn commitment, teamwork, and pride, as well as academic skills.
I am the 7-12 Chorus teacher, as well as the assistant marching band director and the K-12 Gifted teacher.
Our students are vibrant and love to be the center of attention. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch, and there are after-school activities that serve extra meals so kids don't go hungry.
However, our budget is non-existent. Our building is old and hasn't been updated much since it was originally built in the early 1900s. Sounds like a great place for modern learners, right?
My Project
The Marching band provides snacks for our student performers as well as the band for the opposing football team. We have spent the summer collecting donations of snacks and water for the season, because performing is hard work! Kids get hungry and thirsty after a performance.
However, we need to keep our snacks off of the floor.
We have things stored in a little area that appears to be free of creatures and bugs, and we want to keep it this way. These wire shelving units will hold and organize our snacks, and the coolers that we've requested will be used to transport water to our band and the band for the other team.
