My Project

Children begin to learn about their world through interacting with family, their neighborhoods, and their communities. They uses their senses to gain information about the world around them. As a result of these experiences, children begin to categorize or create systems to help them understand their environment.

Maps help us understand our world through new perspectives.

When creating maps, students are able to differentiate their thoughts and ideas. They are able to synthesize new understandings about the world around them. They are able to connect and imagine new possibilities. They can see themselves in new and unknown places.

My students will use engaging text, globes, and maps to notice attributes of a geographical place and how place is connected to the experience of people and communities. Collaboratively, students will create maps to demonstrate their new understandings using the tools of artists and cartographers.
