My Project
Mapping NC: One Piece at a Time is a hands-on classroom project that brings North Carolina geography to life through an interactive puzzle. With your support, we’ll be able to provide high-quality, detailed geography puzzles that highlight our state’s counties, major cities, landmarks, and physical features—tools that will directly support our students’ learning in a fun, tactile, and meaningful way.
These puzzles will give students a chance to physically engage with the shape and layout of North Carolina, helping them build spatial reasoning, map-reading skills, and a stronger understanding of regional differences across the state.
Instead of just reading about geography, students will get to explore it piece by piece—strengthening memory and making learning more active and lasting.
Our goal is to deepen students’ connection to their home state while supporting our social studies curriculum. We want students to not only identify regions and counties, but to understand how geography shapes culture, history, and community in North Carolina. This project will also foster collaboration, as students work together to assemble and explore the puzzle.
Our students are curious, hardworking, and love learning through movement and creativity. They thrive on interactive lessons and truly shine when given tools that make learning feel like discovery. Many of them have limited opportunities to explore the world beyond their own communities, so this project gives them a new way to “see” their state and understand their place within it.
With your help, we can put North Carolina into their hands—one puzzle piece at a time.
