This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The running program has made positive strides since its reintroduction in 2022. We've steadily grown from just 4 consistent practice attendees to over 30 on any given day. In addition to the program growing in size, we have also steadily improved competitively. In 2022, there wasn't a single member of the program who could complete a 5K in under 25 minutes. During the 2024 cross-country season, we saw 8 members break this barrier.

While the overall objective of our program continues to prioritize athlete participation in a healthy afterschool activity, we're also trying to close the gap against our surrounding schools' competitors.

This project aims to increase the opportunity for training consistency for our athletes. It has been proven that the frequency of training bouts drastically impacts cardiovascular ability, so the addition of a manual treadmill and stationary bike into our school's weight room will give endurance athletes an option to maintain and/or improve cardio ability despite subpar weather conditions or non-fracture injuries.
