My Students

I am so excited to share with you my students and our classroom. My students attend a Title I (low income) elementary school in a 2nd/3rd grade combo class. While my students love attending school, they face daily challenges that not all kids endure. My classroom is comprised of students with disabilities, behavior disorders, homeless families, and other struggles. I want my classroom to be a safe place for all of my students the moment they walk through the door. I want our classroom to be a family and a team that shows kindness and supports each other.

My Project

Research shows that playing builds social-emotional and behavioral skills. My students have had two years during the Covid-19 pandemic where these skills have not been fostered. I would like to incorporate a time of daily unstructured play for small groups where they can build teamwork skills as well as spatial awareness all while having fun. This time of play together will foster relationships, help them work through conflict, encourage imagination, and develop spatial skills. Students enjoy hands-on group activities and are more likely to participate in lessons if they are given the opportunity for daily creative play within the classroom.
