The materials you provided have already made a meaningful difference for many of my younger, struggling readers. These students rely on hands-on, engaging tools to build the foundational skills they need in reading and writing, and your generosity has helped make that possible.\r\n\r\nThe fine-motor tools—like pencil grips, sandpaper letters, sand trays, and letter-building materials—have been especially impactful. Students who once struggled to form letters are now eager to practice, and the multisensory approach has helped them strengthen their pencil control and handwriting in a fun, confidence-building way.\r\n\r\nYour support has provided tools that make practice feel like play, and that has opened the door for so many students to succeed. The shelf they are reaching for is almost empty! There should be six different titles, each standing on a stack of 1-3 other copies; however, most of them are checked out! Having these award-nominated books has sparked student reading at a gratifying rate! A little later they will get to vote for their favorite. The great thing about this collection is that there is something for everyone. Struggling readers like The Skull, but so does everyone. Four Eyes is a graphic novel, and all copies always checked out. There has been a lot of excitement over the Rick Riordan book, as well as the others of the fantasy genre.\r\n\r\nIt has meant a great deal to us to have books the students truly can't wait to read! After book talks, they write their predictions for the endings and then clamor for a copy to check out.\r\n\r\nThank you for the grant that has made this excitement for reading a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1753287301425,"projectUrl":"project/books-they-cant-wait-to-read/9356051/","projectTitle":"Books They Can't Wait to Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Unruh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5912079_orig.jpg?crop=321,321,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1606445486472","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5912079"},{"teacherId":6356025,"projectId":9470910,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my small-group learning project! It's a true joy to add these books to the collection and have them at the ready to use with students.\r\n\r\nThe books pair with lessons from the GamePlan curricular materials, and through these stories, students work on many musical concepts. They learn about crescendo and decrescendo with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. I have quite a few younger students who mainly speak Spanish and we will use Los Pollitos to count in both English and Spanish. Grandfather Twilight will serve the older students as they read a beautiful story and learn a melodic accompaniment with new rhythms. Tito Puente: Mambo King will give kids a peek into the life of famous Latin percussionist, Tito Puente. Swimmy and Elmer will teach kids that it's okay to be different!\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, we read together in a big group. We do one story a lesson (song tales like the Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night or Old Joe Clark) with the younger students. Older students still read the story together in a big group, then we work with instruments to help illustrate the story with sound effects and new musical themes.","fullyFundedDate":1727967446403,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-creative-environment-combini/8837935/","projectTitle":"Creating a Creative Environment: Combining Music with Children's Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Skogley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1399200_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475600234750","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-skogley"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78529","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":247,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":66.2,"schoolId":78529,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Broadwater Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Broadwater Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/helena-school-district-1/broadwater-elementary-school/78529"}
