Worksheets are boring! We want to be able to have fun during math using exciting math tools. Let's trick those kids into learning! Students learn better by engaging in hands on learning than sitting at their desk completing worksheet after worksheet.
My school is a low income school.
We have about 75% on the free and reduced-price lunch program. Our students face a lot of challenges everyday with living in unpleasant home environments. Despite being looked down upon by most of the community, the students rise to the challenge. The students are great students and very accepting of one another. They welcome new students with open arms. They are accepting of differences and everyone feels welcome at our school. I am proud to work in such a great school with such wonderful little people.
My Project
I would like to be able to have math workstations up and running in my classroom. During math workstations, the students would be able to go to math centers and engage in hands on learning by playing games and using manipulative. We need resources that help build number sense. I am requesting colorful dominoes to use during our addition lessons. I am also requesting two types of dice. The larger dice we can use as a whole class and the smaller foam dice we can keep in our math tool kits for a variety of classroom activities. I have also requested a fun game to use when we are learning addition. These items will improve student learning by offering a more exciting and engaging method of learning math concepts.
By donating to my project you will be helping first graders increase their number sense.
Having good number sense is important because it is the foundation onto which all of the more difficult math concepts are built upon.
