Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! They come from the most south-eastern part of a huge urban school district. We are a 96% poverty rate school, a high majority to minority, and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are so far south, we joke about how we are often forgotten by the big city. Unfortunately, that also means we are also forgotten when it comes to being thought of for funding.

What we lack in funds, we make up for in enthusiasm and passion to learn new things!

Each day my scholars walk into class with a smile on their face, and an eagerness to get to centers to learn something sensational! However, we are a Title 1 school where funds and supplies are extremely limited, and I want my students to have every opportunity to stay engaged and filled with excitement for learning.

My Project

Each year, I make it a goal to spark a love for learning in each of my Kindergarten scholars. Every morning we start our day off with a chant and sing, "I know I can, be what I want to be. If I work hard at it, I'll be where I want to be." My students know that if they work hard, they can reach all of their dreams and become the best person they can be.

In Kindergarten.

we spend most our our day learning in centers. Each day my students look forward to working with their friends at their centers while using math manipulatives to learn addition and subtraction, or reading resources such as hand made whisper phones. Our centers are fun, bright, hands-on, and engaging!

I am requesting manipulative materials to support sensational centers for my Kindergarten scholars! Manipulatives such as transparent spinners, foam dice, and crayons will be used to support engaging centers and make it seem like my students are playing fun games, while they are actually learning! Reusable Dry Erase Pocket Sleeves and protective Kindle cases will ensure durable literacy, math, and technology centers that will grow them into fluent readers and also help them master math.

These centers will help build those essential foundational skills that will help my students become successful from Kindergarten through college! With help from generous donors like you, I can truly help my scholars reach their full potential!
