My Students

My students are attending a Title I school in New York City, which means that the majority of the family incomes are low and students receive free lunch. As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges inside and outside of the classroom.

Despite the challenges that my students may face, they are all eager to learn.

For example, everyday when my students come in, they are ready to learn and face the day ahead. I want to provide my students with a meaningful learning experience that will allow them to transfer the skills learned to their lives outside of the classroom. Asking the families for even a $5.00 donation would be difficult to achieve. However, I feel that inside the classroom I am able to motivate students to be their best. Therefore, by exposing the students to high-level materials and encouraging them to be their best, learning will occur and motivation will be present.

My Project

My students need a complete math center to browse through and allow them to explore various materials. With a lack of supplies, the students are often unmotivated and lack complete understanding of the concepts. The materials will give the students a wide variety of hands-on resources to accompany all lessons.

All of the items are geared toward the fourth-grade curriculum and would be a wonderful addition to the classroom.

All students will be participating in the New York State Exams, and the resources would truly be a wonderful addition to help them prepare. The students love working together in their math groups, and the resources would allow them more opportunities to learn and explore together.

I am requesting a wide range of items for my students. A variety of subjects are covered in fourth grade, from place value to fractions. We also spend a great deal of time divulging deeper into multiplication and division concepts. Providing them with resources such as number lines, fraction number lines, place value blocks, fraction viewers, and simply flash cards for multiplication and division review, is truly essential for complete success.
