Manipulatives for Problem Solving

My students need center activities and manipulatives, such as games, books and magic boards, to practice problem solving and other skills during math.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like struggling with problem solving in math? I was one of these students and I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to enjoy problem solving with hands-on activities.

I have 19 students in my classroom, in a rural school with a 75% free and reduced lunch rate.

The students love to work on activities in small groups and with objects that they can manipulate. This group of students is very active and they love listening to stories. For many of the students school is not only a place to learn but also a place to get attention that they may not get at home. This grant can show the students that people really care about them and their future.

My Project

Problem solving in math is becoming a bigger focus with the common core standards. By purchasing these activities for the students you will be helping my students become better problem solvers. The students will be able to "see" what they are learning. They will see real-life examples of how they might apply their math skills. The math games will give students an engaging learning center where they can practice and apply what they learn. These resources will help to make math lessons exciting and meaningful!

By providing these resources for students you will be providing activities for students that will engage them in meaningful practice and learning.

These activities will help them become successful with skills they are expected to know.
