Manipulatives for Equity

My Students

The students in my class are enthusiastic and amazingly creative! My scholars are diverse with 20 students coming from 9 different countries. While living in the inner-city with parents working multiple jobs and having multiple siblings and new babies my students show up every day and do their very best. These scholars are getting varying degrees of support and still are dedicated to learning. Most of my students are English Language Learners who may not have English speakers at home. I have multiple projects open some to support their at-home distance learning and some so that I am ready for them as soon as we return to in-class learning. I will also be mailing students rewards for all of their hard work.

My Project

We are returning to partial in-class learning. As a new teacher, I do not have enough materials to create individual packets for students as they will not be able to share for some time. We have been virtual since last March and I know my students will have great gains if they can feel and move the math instead of trying to learn 2 dimensionally. Many of my students do not have access to the simplest of supplies and these Hand2mind manipulatives will go a long way into enriching their education.
