My Students

It is can be difficult for special needs students to learn new math skills with just a book and a piece of paper. That can be so boring and monotonous! My students need fun, practical, hands-on manipulative materials for math.

I have an interrelated special education resource classroom.

The students are from 1st grade to 4th grade with varying levels of ability. I have learning disabled, behavior disordered, autistic, other health impaired, and mentally impaired students in classes throughout the day according to grade level. We are a small, rural, economically challenged elementary school in the state of Georgia.

My Project

We need a hands-on math manipulative materials kit for Grades K-5. The hands-on manipulative kit contains materials for students to learn time, money, counting, measurement, probability, sorting, patterns, etc. The common core math curriculum for all elementary grades must be taught using manipulative materials. These materials will help my students approach math reasoning skills such as estimation, making change, word problems and rounding in a more tactile way.

Manipulative material usage is one of the best ways to promote higher level thinking skills among students with special needs.

Math is often a difficult subject due to abstract ideas and special needs students need more tactile ways to help them learn. Your donation will help my students have a more enjoyable, easier experience in the math classroom.
