My Students

I am a new teacher in a small rural public school. My twenty kindergarten students are extremely enthusiastic and curious learners! With this being some of their first experiences within a school setting, they are curious about the classroom, community, and world around them. Teamwork and collaboration is highly encouraged within my classroom, therefore allowing students to learn to work together and learn from each others' differences and strengths. Allowing young students to be kids is extremely important, not only developmentally but educationally.

My Project

These materials will make a huge impact on my students' learning! Through research, we have found that children learn substantially better through hands-on learning. With being able to touch, feel, and manipulate they will be able to better understand the concept we are working on. With these wide variety of hands-on materials, such as magnetic letters, interlocking unit cubes, pattern block sheets, and physical ten-frames, it allows for various activities to better their learning. These materials will allow for both individual and group learning opportunities which again enhances students' learning. The magnetic letters, used for manipulation and creation of sight words, will allow students to move and create each word allowing them to remember it better. Interlocking unit cubes will be used in math for various one-to-one correspondence activities as well as number sense, addition, and subtraction. Pattern block sheets will be used in math which will allow students to be aware of shapes, their names, and how to manipulate them. Ten frames are used for number sense, addition, and subtraction and will be great within whole group and small group. Literacy and math are extreme focuses within a kindergarten classroom, providing a basis for all other grades and learning. With these tools they will develop a strong basis in order to be successful in the rest of their schooling!
