My Students

I am a librarian and I work in an urban school district with amazing 6th-8th grade students! As a school for the arts many of my students have a unique appreciation for Manga and Graphic Novels. They ask for Manga and Graphic Novels on a daily basis. The kids love them and I want get more copies of titles we already have and find some new titles to add to our collection so I have the books they are excited to read.

My Project

The graphic novels/ manga section in the library is well loved and frequently empty. I even have a waiting list for many of the books! I am hoping to supplement our library collection with more copies of the books students love and provide more titles for them to choose from.

Graphic novels are a preferred format for both boys and girls, and for both struggling and skilled readers.

Graphic novels have complex and compelling stories that motivate students to read more. They allow students to read above their independent reading level as well as giving them an enjoyable reading experience. I want to make sure that enthusiasm for reading is supported by having the books they love available to them.
