My Project

In Kindergarten, students are just learning how to identify and manage their emotions in a healthy way. Many of our students have never been in a formal learning setting until they come to school so we spend a lot of time talking about how to name our feelings and using appropriate strategies to help us be ready to learn.

A calm corner is a support we provide to our students to give them an area where they can use strategies that work for them to take a break and get ready to return to learning.

While we do have one in our classroom, many of the tools have gone missing from years of use and need to be updated. In addition, we would like to add a tent for a way for students to go to an isolated place when they do not want the attention of others. The posters will be used to guide students in choose strategies that will help them regulate their emotions more quickly.

This will be an area that all students in the classroom can enjoy and will help them build resilience skills they will need even in the upper grades.
