Help me give my students two more xylophones to add to our music room. These xylophones will help us get closer to a 1:1 instrument to student ratio so that students do not have to share as often.
I teach over six hundred AWESOME students in a suburb of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. My students are creative, caring, thoughtful, and work together to create great music every day.
Through music, my students learn positive interaction skills, responsibility, and take ownership in their learning.
These traits will help them be successful in middle school and in life.
Help us obtain more xylophones for our music classroom so that my students do not have to share. This allows my students to create and perform in a safe, supportive, and creative environment.
My Project
All students in grades K-5 use barred instruments at my school to perform, create, and improvise in our music room. With increasing class sizes, students usually have to share barred instruments. The purchase of two more xylophones will help our students get closer to a 1:1 ratio of student to instrument.
Barred instruments are used in many ways in our music classroom:
The kindergarteners explore high and low sounds.
1st graders keep a steady beat while using their singing voices.
2nd graders explore pitches in the solfa scale.
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders use them for composition and improvisation.
All K-5 students use barred instruments as effective tools for rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, and aesthetic learning, as well as helping connect their dexterity and higher order thinking skills.
