My Project

My students love performing and creating music on instruments. They especially love to work with pitched percussion instruments like xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels. Currently our classroom only has one set of mallets per instrument with a couple pairs of mallets being broken.

I teach 600 students in grades K-5, and they come to me for 45 minutes once a week.

My school is a Title I school in a military town. Military families many times will move away due to orders or deployments, but often return 1 to 3 years later. Students at my school are eager to learn and are most excited about performing on instruments and creating and performing their own compositions.

My students will be able to use these mallets on a variety of percussion instruments. Additionally, being able to provide my students with different types of mallets (hard, soft, rubber, yarn etc.) will allow them to produce different types of sounds. Students will be able to have choices and make decisions on what sounds best for a particular song. These mallets will also be used to replace old mallets that are broken. This will allow students to perform using correct techniques and use high quality materials.

Having proper mallets in good working condition will allow students to perform on instruments with good technique and with a good sound.

Having proper technique is the foundation for creating the best possible sound on a percussion instrument. Having new mallets in a variety of styles will make a difference in the lives of my students and give them the opportunity to perform at a higher level.
