My students live in a rural area. The majority of the student population is on free and reduced lunch, which means that paying sports fees or parent/family donations can be difficult for our students. My athletes continuously strive to improve their abilities in all of their events.
My Project
We want to make sure we are maximizing our athlete's time at practice. There are plenty of unknowns this year and we want to make sure that we are giving our track and field athletes every opportunity to improve their abilities. One way we can do that is by having access to more equipment, like Plyometric boxes. Having more equipment available will decrease wait time at practice. It will also help our efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, by decreasing the amount of shared equipment.
Our track athletes work incredibly hard and this year, more than ever, we want to make sure they get every chance to make the most of their season.
Another way we can make the most use of practice time is by having a way to post practice plans for all athletes. Having a mobile white board would be an ideal way to display track workouts for athletes during practice. Track and field, unlike other sports, has multiple different events that require the ability to execute various skills. Not all athletes compete in the same events. Since we have a limited number of coaches, it is difficult to have a coach working with athletes in each event during practice. Having a mobile whiteboard will provide the opportunity for our practice plans to be displayed for each event every day. This will prevent our athletes from losing valuable time at practice waiting for a coach to get them started at practice or to help figure out what they should work on next. This will also allow coaches to move around at practice to work with athletes on specific skills.
The goal of this year is to give our kids the best season possible. Having these materials will greatly help abilities to do so.
