Our school is nestled in a small town in North Carolina. We are a unique school considering the fact we are a primary school serving kindergarten through second grade. We are a Title I school, but this does not stop our students from learning. Our students are eager to become innovative learners, and we provide many opportunities for all of our students to shine.
Each student brings something special to their class, better well known as their school family.
We consist of a diverse group of students who have different home lives, as well as different experiences. Our school district's motto is "Lead and innovate to serve," and we are setting the foundation for this in our classrooms and in our school.
As an educator, it is my job to prepare my students for the world they will soon be released into. We offer enriching activities throughout the day. Our goal is to reach every child, every day.
My Project
Our students are entering a new school year with new challenges. One new challenge is that students are currently unable to check out books in our library. In my new role as the STEAM teacher and reading interventionist, I am able to take my love for books and love for STEAM and combine them to make STREAM come alive. I am teaching outside the box.
Students become more engaged when they make connections and do hands-on activities.
With these materials, students will be exposed to new literature that relates to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). After reading these books, we will then use different materials to create the perfect follow-up STEAM challenge. Students have to have their own materials to use individually. We are blessed to have materials in our school, but we are in need of a few more to give students more options during their STEAM challenge.
