Making Sure Every Student Can Read!!

My students need phonics manipulatives, games and books at their reading level to improve their reading this year.

My Students

Many of my students this year have come in reading far below grade level. It is my goal and duty to do everything I can to ensure they meet grade level standards by the end of the year. The supplies requested in this project will make this goal a reality!

My students are a wonderful group of bright motivated 8 to 10 year olds.

They come from an impoverished community in an urban neighborhood in Chicago. They attend their local, public neighborhood school. They are excited about learning and love to come to school everyday. They are a sweet group of children that looks out for one another, both in and outside of the classroom.

My Project

Unfortunately, my students have not been provided the same resources and opportunities that student in more affluent communities receive. Therefore, many students have come in reading far below grade level. The resources I have requested in this project will help students fill in some of the gaps they have in their reading knowledge, which will allow them to improve their reading, and hopefully meet grade level standards by the end of the year The phonics manipulatives and games will help students who are tactile learners understand how words are formed and sounded out. The games will also make learning fun, which will further motivate students! The books I have requested are at the level of my students. These books will allow my students actual reading material to practice the phonics skills they are learning from the manipulatives and games. Having books available at their level is an integral part to making them better readers.

This resources requested in this project will make a HUGE difference in the life of my students.

It will give them what they need in order to fill the gaps their reading knowledge, and make them lifelong readers and learners.
