This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever met a person with great ideas & imagination, but lack of resources was holding them back? I would like to be able to provide these resources for students to further develop their ability to think critically, solve complex problems, & drive advancements in technology!

Our students visit my technology lab every week for a 40 minute period.

My students eagerly come to class excited to learn and ready to face any challenge I might present to them. We are fortunate that technology class is a class free from behavioral issues because we are limited on time and my students want to absorb as much as they can. Our students work extremely hard and always exceed our expectations, especially when connecting technology to the curriculum.

My Project

MaKey MaKey allows for the easy creation of basic circuits and gets students familiar with the basic components of a circuit (power source, wires, input and output) and how circuits interact with computers. Since MaKey MaKey also hooks up to computers, the possibilities are limitless for students interested in getting more experimental. Students can find new programs to control and new objects to use as controls, as well as design new software that can interact with the kit. In this way, MaKey MaKey acts as both an introduction to circuits and a tool for invention. This extends the learning goals of MaKey MaKey to computer programming, engineering and design, and art. It can become a world where every day objects are much more than what they appear. Bananas are more than just a curvy fruit - they’re keys to a virtual piano. Play-dough isn’t just a tasty child’s toy - it’s the controlling force behind Pacman’s up/down/left/right. And your simple pencil drawings are a portal to Portal.

With MaKey MaKey, any student can become an inventor!

The MaKey MaKey is one tool that will help my learners to think beyond pre-designed, closed activities and develop skills in thinking, creativity and innovation all while learning key skills in digital technologies and other disciplines.
