My Students

It is hard to describe a typical day in my classroom because I like to mix it up a lot! It is my goal every year to challenge and engage students in a variety of ways, especially through projects and real-world examples.

My students come from all different backgrounds and it is really interesting to see them all learning together and from each other.

My students are honors students, so I have to always find new ways of keeping them challenged and engaged.

My Project

Our classroom has come a long way since we first started our flexible seating environment last year. Students are able to choose their seats around the room based on their preferences and learning styles. It has been a huge success and I’ve seen students engage more with the content because they were physically comfortable and relaxed.

Our last obstacle to a truly flexible classroom is that the document camera table and projector is right in the middle of the room.

We were able to raise funds needed to mount the projector to the ceiling, so the final step I set to move that station to a cart on wheels so that students can finally have that prime real estate right in front and center!

This cart will not only provide a space for the laptop, document camera and materials, but since it is on wheels we can move it out of the way when it’s not needed. This will really allow us to try new configurations and create better sight lines in my classroom so that every seat is a great one!

Students will benefit from this project because they will have better access to the resources they need, be able to see the board a lot better (especially for students with accommodations), provide a great space for students to use the document camera to share their methods for solving math problems, and we will be able to redesign the classroom space to ensure that everyone is able to focus and learn.
