This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
For some, the opportunity seems like a distant dream. However, it is my job, as a teacher, to present the dreams and opportunities to my students and try to make it their reality. Too many children, especially in low socioeconomic backgrounds, lack the drive to explore the dreams that many others take for granted.
My students should have access to materials that allow them to be competitive during regional and state science fairs.
Unfortunately, many of my students are unable to afford simple things such as science fair boards, paper, border, etc.
My Project
Every year students are intrigued with doing their science fair project. They love conducting experiments on their own and finding out the results. It's truly amazing what projects students choose to do their experiments and the nature of their thought process. Over the years, teaching in a low-socioeconomic community, many of my students' families struggle to provide the necessary resources to produce a promising, yet outstanding science fair project. Many students provide great content and perform great experiments; however, many students do not place as high as their peers due to their boards not being as creative. It's time to change that!
With this given opportunity you can help give each child in need a fair shot at being as successful as their peers!
It has always bothered me to see great projects not be given the attention it needed from the judges. Part of the the scoring rubric is creativity of content as well as, creativity and neatness of the board. The resources requested, such as the colorful paper, my students will be able to have neat, colorful decor that they can place on their boards in a creative way! They can also cut images related to their experiments using a Circuit machine and die-cuts. .
