Making Reading Skill Practice Fun for Older Students

My Students

I work as a Reading Interventionist at a rural, Title I school. We have a high poverty level and many of our students do not have access to good quality reading materials at home. I would really like to change this for my students!

My students come to our Reading Lab with various reading difficulties, and very often low self-esteem about their own literacy abilities.

My students vary in ages and abilities, but they all are enthusiastic about practicing the skills to improve their reading. They work hard and bring their best "TRY" to the Lab every day.

My Project

I believe that learning should be fun! The Hands2Mind literacy kits would provide my students with a fun and engaging way to practice much-needed literacy skills.

By increasing student engagement through these hands-on manipulative kits, my struggling learners will be practicing the reading skills that they need to fill in the gaps in their learning to read journeys.

The Versatile kits would be perfect for my small intervention groups and allow for more individualized, targeted teaching to address the needs of the students coming to the Reading Intervention Lab. Plus, they will be a fun way to learn and practice new skills!
