Our school is in the beautiful foothills and our school is a true community school. Our community is small, but they love our school and work hard to support it. However, with the current economic situation, our school has had a dramatic increase in students coming from high poverty situations.
In my library and STEM classroom, I strive daily to give my students a wide range of materials and opportunities to experience new ways of reading.
With these Volunteer State Book Award nominee books, I will help my students learn to read and help begin a magical adventure of books. I am striving daily to make a difference in the lives of my students.
Our school's community is very supportive of our school, but we are lacking in some of the fundamental tools to teach our students such as manipulative materials, STEM technology, updated books, and other educational resources.
Our students are eager to learn new information each day and come to school with a smile on their face. It is truly a pleasure to work with these students.
This project is for the purchase of Volunteer State Book Award nominee books for our school library. These books have been chosen by Tennessee librarians, teachers, and students as high-interest, appropriate books for kindergarten through fifth grade students. The VSBA books have received excellent reviews and showcase a variety of styles of storytelling.
Research, and my own personal observation, has proven that students must see themselves in books, so it is vitally important for my students to be able to relate to the subject matter they read about in books. Providing my students with books that they will find interesting is essential in getting our students to learn that reading is a magical adventure.
