Making Reading Fun with Book Clubs

My students need 5 copies of 15-20 book titles at their reading level for example, "Artemis Fowl" and "Spiderwick Chronicles".

I teach 5th grade at a very small urban elementary school in Massachusetts. My school is located in a high need community with many English Learners and students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

We currently do not have enough copies of books to hold proper book clubs. Book clubs are a great way to get students excited to read. Who doesn't want to converse about a book with a peer? In a book club of 4-5 students, each student needs a copy of the book to read at home and at school. Sharing a chapter book would be nearly impossible. Its important to enable students to encourage each other to read and understand what they are reading.

We need 4-5 copies of different book titles. These book titles consist of many popular series that will hook a student into reading the whole series. In order to progress towards proficiency at grade level reading, students need to have resources available to them. My students experienced book clubs last year and want to continue to read and discuss books at their reading level. Your donation will benefit these students and contribute to their literacy development.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to read and enjoy books together. Imagine students conversing about books they've all read instead of the latest TV show craze. My students will benefit greatly this year and hopefully their love of reading will continue.
