My students need books to help enhance our curriculum! Our titles include Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, Tell Me, Tree: All About Trees for Kids, Aesop's Fables, Daddy, and Could I Have an Elephant? We love read aloud books and class sets!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in a low-income, Title I community in San Jose. Many of these students are bilingual or are English Language Learners. They are hard-working, positive, and loving despite the many challenges they face. Some often don't have resources at home or outside of school. They often have trouble expressing themselves orally as many are English Language Learners. By creating a positive classroom that allows for expression, collaboration, and communication, I hope that these students can grow into wonderful people.
My students are full of wonder!
They love to read, play, and grow in any way they can. They love to dive deep into books, create art, experiment, and solve problems collaboratively! Though they face challenges, they are some of the most incredible students I've had!
My Project
We need books to help enhance our curriculum! Our titles include Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, Tell Me, Tree: All About Trees for Kids, Aesop's Fables, Daddy, and Could I Have an Elephant? This project will allow me to enhance our curriculum with additional read aloud books as well as a class set of books. The students I teach love to engage in shared reading as it provides support for the English Language Learners as well as challenges students who may be reading below grade level.
Shared reading allows for open discussions, seeing content in a new way, and a new passion for books!
I want to be able to provide a means for an engaging students of all reading levels, and having a class set of books will allow me to do this! Also, the read aloud books will be helpful when teaching various standards. The students will be able to engage in word work without using "just a textbook." It will allow my students to have more focused instruction that pulls their interests, likes, and needs!
