During a recent math lesson on multi-digit addition, I watched a student who usually hesitates to write anything down happily scribbling and regrouping numbers in their new pocket sleeve and white boards. When they realized they could simply wipe away a mistake, their anxiety vanished, and they proudly told me they weren't \"scared of the big numbers anymore.\" When the students first saw the vibrant markers and shiny sleeves, the room was filled with \"oohs\" and \"ahhs\"—they were thrilled to have their own \"signature\" colors, which instantly turned a standard Tuesday into a special event.\r\n\r\nNow that they've mastered using these tools for daily drills, our next step is to use them for collaborative storyboarding in our upcoming writing unit. The ability to sketch, erase, and rearrange their ideas in real-time is helping them embrace the editing process as a natural part of learning. By removing the fear of a \"permanent\" mistake on paper, these materials have truly unlocked a new level of confidence and creativity in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768507968381,"projectUrl":"project/write-wipe-and-repeat/9962272/","projectTitle":"Write, Wipe, and Repeat!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9821953_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y614&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737263430164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9821953"},{"teacherId":8604117,"projectId":9558093,"letterContent":"I want to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to my \"Mark Your Words\" Expo Marker Project. Your generosity truly means more than I can express. As a teacher, it can sometimes be difficult to provide every single material students need to learn in the most engaging and effective ways. Many of the supplies that make learning interactive and exciting are things we often have to find creative ways to obtain. Because of generous donors like you, my students now have access to tools that help bring our lessons to life. Finding a community of people who believe in supporting classrooms and investing in students is such a blessing, and I feel incredibly grateful to have received your support.\r\n\r\nExpo markers may seem like a simple classroom supply, but in our classroom they are used every single day. They allow my students to actively participate in lessons rather than just watching or listening. One of the biggest ways we use them is during our phonics instruction. My students use whiteboards and Expo markers to practice building words, writing sounds they hear, breaking words into syllables, and experimenting with spelling patterns. Instead of simply looking at words on a page, they get to physically write, erase, and try again. This hands-on practice helps them develop confidence as readers and writers. The ability to quickly erase and correct their work encourages students to take risks and try new words without feeling afraid of making mistakes. Because of your donations, every child can participate fully during these lessons, and no one has to sit out due to a lack of supplies.\r\n\r\nIn addition to phonics, the markers are used throughout our day across many subjects. During math, students use them to solve problems, draw models, and show their thinking on their whiteboards. During writing, they use them to brainstorm ideas, practice sentence structure, and work through spelling strategies. We also use them during small group instruction, partner work, and quick formative assessments that help me check for understanding in real time. These markers support an interactive learning environment where students are constantly engaged rather than passively observing. I will be sharing pictures so you can see just how often these markers are in action and how excited students are to use them. Your donation is not just providing a supply—it is supporting meaningful learning experiences that happen throughout our classroom every single day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students have the opportunity to practice important skills in a way that is engaging, collaborative, and confidence-building. Classroom supplies like these may seem small, but they play a huge role in making learning accessible and enjoyable. When students are able to actively participate, they develop stronger skills and a greater love for learning. Knowing that there are people out there who care about their education and are willing to support them is incredibly powerful. On behalf of my entire classroom, thank you for believing in my students and for helping make our classroom a place where learning is interactive, exciting, and full of opportunity. Your kindness and generosity are making a real difference in the lives of my students, and we are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1762266315075,"projectUrl":"project/mark-my-words-we-need-expo-markers/9558093/","projectTitle":"Mark My Words… We Need Expo Markers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Paz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8604117_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1684891208015","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8604117"},{"teacherId":1594859,"projectId":9524326,"letterContent":"I really appreciate your generous heart in supporting my classroom. When the class received TIME for Kids, my students were eager to read the magazines. I used them to help develop my students' reading comprehension and to learn about different ideas and cultures outside of their community.\r\n\r\nWhen we read the \"Got Grub?\" article, the students were fascinated to learn that insects are a food source in as many as 80% of the world's countries, something they had never heard about before. They even asked what insects taste like. I have never tasted them myself, so I couldn't fully explain, but I shared that different countries eat different kinds of insects and that raising insects requires much less space than raising cows or chickens.\r\n\r\nAnother article that had a real impact on my students was \"Digital Defender.\" We learned how important it is to be careful about what we share online and how students can help educate their parents and grandparents to prevent scammers and cybercrime. It was an eye-opening lesson that showed us how cautious we need to be, even when playing games online. Students learned never to share any private information on the internet.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you so much for providing additional reading materials for my classroom, which my students can also take home to help educate them about the world beyond what they learn at school.","fullyFundedDate":1760725690488,"projectUrl":"project/opening-doors-through-reading/9524326/","projectTitle":"Opening Doors Through Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Song","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1594859_orig.jpg?crop=1241,1241,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753465693440","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/teamsong"},{"teacherId":10171453,"projectId":9583821,"letterContent":"Our new classroom materials-- crayons, glue sticks, pencils, and composition notebooks-- have quickly become an essential part of our social studies interactive notebooks. Students use these tools daily to build colorful, organized, and meaningful pages that support their learning. One of our favorite projects so far has been creating \"Our Rules at Home and School\" foldable. Students colored and wrote important rules, as well as glued in to assemble the foldable into their notebooks. These hands-on resources allowed students to personalize their work and stay engaged while building a notebook they can be proud of. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate and joyful. Several students couldn't believe the supplies were for them and asked excitedly if they could start using them right away. The fresh crayons and bright highlighters made the activities feel special and motivated them to put extra care into their illustrations, notes, and diagrams. Their excitement showed just how much these simple tools can transform the learning atmosphere and help students feel valued. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps involve continuing to grow our interactive notebooks as we begin our unit to explore families, traditions, and how communities work together. They will create notebook pages comparing family traditions, draw and label important community places, and build mini-books showing the importance of being a good citizen. The new materials will help them highlight key ideas, illustrate their understanding, and assemble interactive pages that make these concepts come to life. Thanks to our donors, students can fully engage int his hands-on learning as they deepen their understanding of their roles in their community.","fullyFundedDate":1755999085123,"projectUrl":"project/encourage-engaging-social-studies-in-fir/9583821/","projectTitle":"Encourage engaging social studies in first grade with interactive notebooks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Allmann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10171453_orig.jpg?crop=922,923,x0,y46&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755120775064","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10171453"},{"teacherId":2791558,"projectId":9567643,"letterContent":"We are having so much fun with the new equipment! Bingo has become the biggest hit in our classroom—every single student wants to play. It has been amazing to see how motivated they are to learn their numbers and letters because they know they need them to win. Even my quieter students are suddenly enthusiastic, calling out their letters with confidence and cheering each other on.\r\n\r\nEvery Friday, students choose a Fun Friday station—games, art, building, or partner activities—and these materials have turned that time into something they look forward to all week. The lap desks have given students flexible seating options, which helps them stay focused and comfortable during independent work. Many students love using the lap desks to find a quiet spot where they can still see the board clearly.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened during our read-aloud of Indian Shoes. As I read the story of Ray and Grampa Halfmoon, I asked students to draw what they pictured on their whiteboards. Some drew the baseball game scene, others illustrated the shoe store, and a few captured the close relationship between Ray and his grandfather. When we paused to share, students excitedly compared their drawings, noticed new details in the text, and discussed how their visualizations helped them understand the setting and characters more deeply.\r\n\r\nWhen students saw the new materials in class, they were thrilled! Many of them gasped when they realized everyone would have their own whiteboard and markers. They immediately wanted to try them out in our lessons. They immediately got to work building towers, bridges, and little \"cities,\" and it was the first time I had seen every student so engaged at the same time. One moment that stood out was during our STEM challenge: students had to design a structure tall enough to hold a small toy without falling. I watched them brainstorm, test, fail, and rebuild together. The conversations they had—\"What if we make a wider base?\" \"Let's reinforce this side!\"—were exactly the problem-solving moments I hoped this project would create.\r\n\r\nThese magnet tiles have become a core part of our engineering block. Students use them daily to explore shapes, stability, symmetry, and teamwork. For my English learners and students with IEPs, the tiles have offered a hands-on way to express ideas without needing perfect language. They've collaborated more confidently and shown growth in communication because this tool makes participation accessible for everyone.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to take these engineering skills even further. Students will begin planning and sketching their designs before building, learning how real engineers move from an idea to a blueprint to a finished structure. We'll also introduce small group challenges where each team creates a bridge, vehicle, or building with a specific purpose.
