My Students
Many students are intimidated by writing essays, but my students have found a way to make writing fun by injecting their voices and opinions into everything they create. Our school positively impacts Houston by serving low-income students and preparing them for a bright, college-bound future.
Unfortunately, many of our students were negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and finding money to put towards technology is a challenge.
Several of my students are ESL or Special Education students who struggle with putting pen to paper to write their essays. Technology can help to remove this obstacle; tablets would allow my students to express themselves without being slowed down by traditional handwriting. In addition, using keyboards to create their essays will prepare my students for their technology-heavy future.
My Project
These twenty-two Fire tablets with Alexa will help my students with research and, above all, they will help my most struggling students find the ability to express their opinions and ideas.
Since Hurricane Harvey hit, our students have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and many of our students have become more withdrawn.
In my class, students have the opportunity to write expository essays explaining their thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics. Students who are ESL students or who have learning disabilities can struggle to write their thoughts out effectively with pen and paper. With these tablets, my students will all equitably have the chance to get their thoughts across to the world.
