Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all from Atlanta, Ga. They live in a tight knit community that has limited resources. The art room they currently have access to is unorganized and creates challenges for student's creativity. These students don't have access to art materials in their homes, so the art room is their main access to art tools and a chance to be creative. Over the past month, I have worked with excited students that can't wait to be creative. We have made some amazing art, including the watercolor resist cat pictured with this project.
My Project
Our art room is out dated and unorganized. Many of the current storage solutions are broken and challenging to use for little artists. Things being broken is not only safety hazard, but a huge distraction to these students. These students feel a sense of responsibility to their school, so they want to "fix" the containers. Getting new storage solutions would remove this distraction and create a more organized and clean environment for our creative process. My goal is to make the art room colorful and organized to allow for maximum creativity and availability of materials; which would help reinforce the idea that the arts matter!
