My school is comprised of 90% of students receiving free and reduced-price lunch and 32% English Language Learners. It is located in a small urban town in middle Tennessee. The students at my school are from low-income families that would not be able to provide an instrument for their child or the opportunity to learn to play an instrument outside of school music class.
The use of keyboards in the music classroom would provide new opportunities for my students.
The students love music class; however, when we are able to incorporate hands-on experiences, the learning is enhanced and the students are more engaged and excited about music.
My Project
The majority of my students are from low income families. Musical instruments and lessons are not often a priority in these households. I would love to have new keyboards for students to be engaged in hands on learning and experience something new.
New keyboards would provide students with the opportunity to experience the joy of making music.
Music is a creative outlet used by many for stress relief or expressing their feelings. I would like my students to be able to apply the theories we have learned in class on their own keyboards and potentially create their own music.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
