Making Music With Contra Bass Bars

My students need contra bass bars to accompany many of their songs and compositions with a Resonator Bar.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Therefore, I strive to create and maintain an atmosphere of safety, fun, and creativity. Many of my students do not have access to instruments at home, so I work hard to provide my students with creative and meaningful musical experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

I teach at at Title I school in Texas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Despite such hardship, my students come into my room eager to learn, dance, sing, and play. In return, I do my best to facilitate their growth not only as musicians, but as human beings.

My Project

My students would really benefit from having Sub-Contra Bass Chime Bars C & G Orff instruments for music class. I see all 387 of my students once per week. Every time I see my little ones (pre K-2nd grade) they beg me to please play the "Orff Instruments." (Xylophones and Glockenspiels.) And while I would love to let the students play these wonderful instruments, they simply are not age appropriate for very young students. As you can imagine, coming to music class and seeing a room full of wonderful Orff instruments but not being able to play them, can be very frustrating! Fortunately, there is a way for these students to participate.

Contra Bass Bars are a great way for younger students, and students with disabilities to be able to accompany the music that they make in a new and exciting way.

Not only that, but older students benefit from Contra Bass Bars by being able to add a resonate bass line to their songs. This helps keep the ensemble together in time and on pitch. Furthermore, bass bars would create a more balanced sound for the ensemble, and allow more students to be able to play an instrument.

By adding a new instrument to our music room, my students will have more opportunities to play with different instruments and express themselves.
