All of our students want to learn to play percussive instruments at least once in their lives. Unfortunately, many do not have access to instruments in their day to day lives, and even in my classroom they are limited to three drums. These "Stick Stations" will provide an opportunity for the kids to play in the classroom, many at a time, and with several different timbres to maintain their interest. These stations will help them with the basic idea of steady beat in the songs while also building the self-esteem that students need to play independently. As they progress, students will be able to do team and independent work to build musicianship and to be able to practice socialization. The Stick Stations will provide every student with an opportunity to succeed. These stations will encourage students to work on core musicianship skills such as steady beat and rhythmic ostinati, because the different and unique timbres of the drum sticks, pop tubes, and tambourines will help maintain student interest. Having a class set of "Stick Stations" will enhance the environment not only in the classroom but on the concert stage as well by allowing everyone to perform at simultaneously.
