My students are a diverse group of children that are from United States Coast Guard families, local farmers and low-poverty. Music allows all backgrounds to unite and share a common joy, while learning how to work with a melting pot of differences. My students are excited to learn various music styles and instruments. Whatever their home life situation, the students at my school are able to join together as an ensemble and make music happen! Music is the universal language and I want to allow all my students the opportunity to have an instrument in their hands!
My Project
Ours is a small public school with roughly 300 kids ranging from kindergarten through 5th grade. The music classroom provides students an opportunity to learn about music reading and performance. Currently, we have only 11 baritone ukuleles in our music program. The class size ranges from 18-25 students, with three separate classes for a total of 60 fifth graders.
We would love to have individual baritone ukuleles for each student.
This will allow students to learn during class without sharing, and also have the opportunity to perform as an entire class not just allow the top students to play. We have Veterans Day shows, Holiday Shows, perform for the local military base and talent shows. Helping students with instruments provides them an opportunity to participate with their fellow classmates and make learning fun and engaging for all! Help us explore the world of instrumental music with strings!
