Making Multisensory Literacy Instruction a Reality!

My Project

My students are in grades 6th-8th and are working incredibly hard to improve their reading and vocabulary skills in my decoding and Language Arts classes; many of my students are multiple grades below their reading level and benefit from specialized instruction in order to get closer to grade level and flourish in their other classes especially as vocabulary and texts become more complex at the middle school level. This year we are in need of additional hands on materials to fully utilize our multisensory literacy instruction such as dry erase boards, magnets, markers, pencils, erasers and wikki stix. Many students with disabilities such as dyslexia like a number of the students I work with benefit from repeated multisensory reading instruction in order to fill in gaps in their knowledge. My older students are highly motivated by games as another form of review and reading practice along with healthy snacks to get them focused for learning. The bookshelf organizes materials since I travel between classrooms. Reading is such a crucial skill for success in the future and motivating older students to continue to work hard is important for their self- confidence and supporting them in their educational journey.
