My kiddos are nontraditional learners living in a traditional learning environment. They are little bodies that need to move often & feel comfortable in the place they spend so much time in.
These kiddos are of a new generation and it is my job to meet them where they are.
Where are they exactly? They are anxious, jittery, some of them don't have a stable place to sleep, some of them live on 100% screen time at home, some of them are on medications, all of them are loved. My goal is to transform my semi-traditional classroom into a more nontraditional classroom. This means going from chairs & desks to flexible seating. Large cold desks to lap desks that can be used with a bean bag or rug. Plastic seats & bright lights to comfy rugs and dimmed lighting. These children are not the same children from 50 years ago. Therefore, they will not learn the same either. I must move to meet!
My Project

Flexible seating and fostering a more comfortable learning environment will greatly assist in the education of the children of a new generation!
I will use the wobble chairs, stability balls, & lap trays for my kiddos to be able to be mobile while they work!
I will use the rug to give them a comfortable space to go to when working with the lap trays. These are very small steps toward a more forward-thinking classroom!
In your next work meeting or workshop when your bottom is numb & your eyes are closing.. imagine what it would be like if you were relaxing on a rug or sitting on a chair that moves around a bit. You would be hearing the same exact thing..but that small change could make a world of difference for you! That is my goal. Making small moves toward great change!
