Making Mosaics With Classical Creativity!

Help me give my students glass tiles and glass glue to create modern mosaics based on classical inspirations!

My Project

In seventh grade, students will get to learn about the achievements of ancient cultures, including the Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines (who might've been upset that I mentioned them separately from the Romans!). They will marvel at their engineering, be amazed by their architecture, and be in awe of their art.

You can inspire students to delve into the patterns of the past and gift them the chance to create their own by helping to complete our mosaic project!

Students will look at many examples of mosaics from ancient Rome and Byzantium and try to create a geometric pattern of their own from actual glass tiles. Using close looking to find a classical pattern to replicate, students will have to use their spatial reasoning and creativity to complete their own mosaic. During school years past, our students were absolutely thrilled to participate in this project. This year, I wasn't sure if we should recreate it, but our team of educators has brought it up so many times as a can't-miss 7th grade experience. Please help us give our new students this same incredible opportunity!
