My students are full of personality. Coming from a variety of home lives, my students walk in each morning with a love for learning! Teaching seven and eight year olds requires me to create opportunities for them to play educational games, get their hands dirty, and have fun while they learn.
I teach math, science and social studies to two classes of second graders.
My teaching partner teaches ELA to both classes. We work in a Title I school that has a large population of students who qualify for our free or reduced-cost lunch program.
My Project
I want to incorporate a morning meeting into our day to help promote classroom community within our four walls. We have a carpet area that would be a perfect place to gather in the mornings, we just need the resources to implement this time.
With morning meetings, we will be able to start our day off on a positive note!
By starting the day with a morning meeting, my students will have a fun time to kick start our day and start it in a positive way. Also, this time will allow for them to build social skills, improve our classroom community, and be able to reflect on their emotions.
The resources I have selected will provide interactive games and discussions to help drive our morning meetings. Through the discussion starters provided in the book, the games, and other online resources I currently have but need ink to print out, the students will be able to have the opportunity to explore learning concepts through games as well as get to know each other more as we build classroom community.
